AH! Welcome to my very first blog, fam!! I am so excited for this new chapter and I can't wait to share it with you.
I want to talk to you about what it truly means to glow up, from the inside out. If you follow me on social media, (and if you don't, you can find me @wellwithcourtney), you know I am constantly talking about how to glow up, mentally and physically. It's become my biggest passion and ultimately, my purpose.
Let's take a second and really talk about what this means. So, what is a *glow up* and why am I so passionate about helping others glow up, too?
Most people will say a glow up happens when you get a new job promotion, when you lose 100 pounds, when you completely change yourself, who you are and how you look. I, on the other hand, believe that a glow up means something very, very different.
To me, glowing up is all about one thing. Transforming yourself for the better. The truth is I spent the first 25 years of my life insecure, overweight and unhappy.
From a really young age, I was unhappy with who I was, how I looked and how I felt. As I got older and became more aware of my body, I started to try out diets, workout programs and these crazy extreme fad diets in hopes that I would change my body, finally become confident and feel proud of the person that I was.
I spent 10 years in my fitness journey desperately trying to find happiness. I went through every juice cleanse, every workout program, I tried waist trainers, diet pills, meal replacement shakes, skinny teas and every other fad in the book. It got me no where.
I was so desperate to find how to feel happy and healthy that I decided to go to college and study healthy living so I could learn firsthand how to save myself. I graduated with my degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in health and wellness. Then shortly after graduating, I became a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine.
My entire college experience was spent immersing myself in how to live a healthy lifestyle that would give me the body, the confidence, the energy and the *glow* that I was looking for. It took me years to finally figure it out, but after years of trial and error I cracked the code.
I broke it down into 3 main categories that made women glow up and feel happy and healthy in their bodies. It came down to working on and prioritizing your mind, body and soul.
When it came to the mindset work, it meant challenging those unhealthy thoughts, patterns and cycles. It meant actively choosing to develop and grow yourself everyday, through personal development, affirmation work and by focusing on living a healthy, empowered mindset.
Second was the body work. This meant learning to fuel my body with the right nutrients, learning about the importance of macronutrients and micronutrients and how to start getting enough of each. It meant learning how to create balance in my diet so I wasn't restricting anymore. It also meant learning what forms of exercise would transform my body and give me the energy and confidence I was looking for.
And lastly, was the soul work. Ooh, baby, was this a big one. I realized the importance of living an intentional, mindful, wellness based lifestyle that prioritized my health and wellness over weight loss. Once I started incorporating more meditation, more breath work and more intentional rest, my body and mind changed forever.
Over the last few years, I have ditched the fads, the extremes and the unsustainable practices and simply focused on these three components of wellness. I can solidly say that I have never felt so happy, so healthy, so lean, energized and confident.
I can truly say that I love myself, I love my body, and I love the person that I have become. THAT to me is a glow up. It's not just about seeing the scale go down, or having these external measures tell you that you've "made it' or that you're good enough.
My glow up happened when I decided I was worthy of this glow up. It happened when I decided to commit to my health, my wellness, in the right way. That is the only way that you're going to find the glow, the confidence and the results that you're looking for, is by giving yourself permission and simply choosing yourself and this journey.
